The Expend concept: expenses made better

The idea for Expend came from a frustration that many of us face: logging business expenses. Whether it’s for your own business or the company you work for, we have to hoard receipts and fill out forms, probably using clunky software. This can be such an unpleasant and time-consuming chore that we often (usually!) put it off until the last minute. Occasionally we don’t even bother, if it seems like it just isn't worth it. This is what sparked the idea of creating a simple solution to manage and ultimately avoid all of this muddle.

First off the blocks, an app to capture transactions that count as business expenses. Since we really hate hoarding receipts, we made it possible to simply take a photo of a receipt along with the transaction details. We integrated with one of the UK’s leading accounting platforms to sync these expense transactions to users’ accounts, so that, after you've captured an expense, you can just get on with business, without having to worry about dealing with it later.

But one of our co-founders has vast experience with payment systems, and early on he thought that we could make things even easier for users, by providing a payment card that you use just for purchases that counted as expenses. As soon as you pay, all the transaction details are captured automatically, reducing the steps involved to simply (optionally) taking a photo of the receipt. Then we make the data useful and easy to use, for you, your accountant, or your accounting platform. Well, that’s exactly what we’re busy doing here at Expend.

Our app has already made things easier for Crunch Accounting users, and now we’re hard at work getting ready to launch a beta version of the Expend Card. We’re passionate about making it easier for you to run your business, and we can’t wait to deliver the Expend Card. You can register your interest in the Expend app, and, pretty soon, you’ll be able to order your card right there from within the app as well.

We’ll keep you updated here on our blog, so check back to see what we’re up to!
