Expend is making waves in the fast growing Accounting Tech market

Well, what can we say? It’s certainly been a productive year so far in the world of Expend.

We’ve really started to gain traction and momentum through a number of significant landmarks, as we continue to lead the way for Finance Software as a Service (or FinSaaS as we like to call it!) for businesses across the UK.

Alongside our inclusion in this year’s Disruptive 50 Index — and not one but TWO Payment Award nominations — we’ve also made it on to the QuickBooks app marketplace. No mean feat…

1. Getting on the QuickBooks app marketplace

Let’s start with our most recent achievement — one we’re pretty damn proud of given the notoriously tough and lengthy approval process.

Often, a flashy Lambo, holiday home in the Algarve or a Rolex hanging off your wrist might symbolise you’ve “made it”. But in the fintech market, you know you’re doing good if you’re on the QuickBooks app marketplace. And if you’re the first and only one in your sector? Even better.

Currently, Expend is the only business prepaid card officially available in the UK QuickBooks app marketplace. It took a while — QuickBook’s checks and requirements are amongst the highest in the industry — but we got there eventually.

This achievement is a real testament to everyone in our development team. Together, they spent hundreds of hours making sure we created a QuickBooks integration to meet the exacting standards of the accounting software. And we couldn’t be happier with the finished result.

Although it was a lengthy process, it’s taught us a lot and helped us to improve our product. Meaning ALL of our users — not just those using QuickBooks — are benefiting from increased security and usability to manage their bills and expenses faster than ever.

Now the hard(est) part is done, we’re excited to show new users what we can do!

2. Making the cut for the Disruption 50 Index

We’ve been disrupting the expense management and payment sector for some time now. So, we were delighted when all of this effort was officially recognised by the Disruption 50 Index earlier this year.

A partnership between D/SRUPTION, Hotwire and Unanimous AI, the Disruption 50 Index highlights and celebrates British businesses that are championing innovation and paving the way for real change.

In the end, we came a commendable joint 31st on the list, amongst outstanding company too. From established businesses creating new markets to startups and scaleups working at the forefront of new technologies, entries were accepted across all industry sectors and company sizes.

Several other disruptive tech companies from across different sectors were also featured in the report — including mortgage market shakers Trussle, food waste fighters OLIO and verification wizards Onfido.

3. Not one but TWO Payment Awards nominations

If all of the above wasn’t enough, we’ve also been shortlisted for Best Prepaid Card Solution and Most Disruptive Payments Technology in the 2019 Payment Awards!

Our developers put in long hours of hard graft. Without their efforts, Expend’s expense management platform and prepaid Mastercard wouldn’t be continuing to make expenses effortless for thousands of employees and businesses across the UK. So, it’s great to see this tireless work being recognised by the judges.

The 7th annual Payments Awards acknowledges excellence and innovation across the cards and payments sector and will take place on the 13th of November. Stay tuned to see how we get on…

Pass the fizz

It’s safe to say we’re pretty chuffed with how far we’ve come this year. And every single team member deserves an almighty big pat on the back (and a drink!) for their contributions to these achievements. Speaking of our team, it's been growing fast over the last few months with new account managers and a head of partnerships joining our ranks.

With just over two months left of the year, we’re now gearing up to exhibit at Xerocon next month — where we’re looking forward to unveiling our latest features.

Then it’s surely time for a well-deserved break over Christmas before we get our heads down again and crack on with the new year?
