5 things we learnt from our first Accountex
23rd and 24th May saw our expenses admin busting team descend on our very first Accountex, and this is what we learnt.
1) People really did love the flexibility of our all in one expenses solution.
With over 700 visitors to our action packed stand. We barely even had time to stop for lunch and three of our team lost their voice. But we didn’t mind, in fact we loved it. Accountants and businesses alike could see the power of what we have lovingly created and our new features. It's great to be welcoming even more accountant partners to the Expend family every day as a result.
2) The big accounting platforms did it in style.
Not a surprise really, but their stands were HUGE! Some of them were big enough to hold their own conferences and Xero's even had it's own Jungle.
3) It turned out that Xero attended their first Accountex with the same sized stand as us.
Yes we may have had a humble 3x3m stand, but Xero had the exact same size when they did their first Accountex back in 2012, and like them we made the most of it. It’s exciting to think that Xero, with it’s huge growth and ground breaking ideas started with the same sized stand. Especially as we are particularly proud of our Xero integration that forms part of The Expend Difference
4) Everything is in the cloud.
We’re not going to pretend that everyone is now in the cloud and have completely moved away from the old style accounting systems, but that day looks to be closer than ever. With the large number of seminars and talks on this and many other subjects, people weren't just here to top up their CPD hours.
You could see that the shift towards a more digital future is very much happening. The introduction of HMRC’s “Making Tax Digital” initiative is helping to change the way we will do business and will only accelerate this further. As are the demands from customers and employees who expect solutions that work for them.
Yes the benefits of cloud accounting was there for all to see. Accountex was full of solutions that promise to saved time, give real-time insights, flexibility, control and cost savings.
5) People really do love an #ExpendCactus
Over 500 individually named #ExpendCactus left Accountex for new homes in offices up and down the UK. Plus quite a few people from Australia and the US told us to launch there soon, so they could get one too and use our solution. We featured in the Accounting Web best SWAG video (below) and a number of people declared us the unofficial winner of the best SWAG at Accountex.
